John Lewis Community Matters

Throughout the Christmas period, HOPE London were pleased to be a part of the John Lewis Community Matters scheme at Brent Cross shopping centre. Community Matters is John Lewis's charitable giving scheme that runs throughout their stores, where £3,000 is divided amongst the three charities. Each charity will receive a portion from the amount, depending on the percentage of votes.

We have just heard from John Lewis and we have received 30% of the share, which means we will be receiving £900! We will be busy organising a day trip to London Zoo for all the families that attend the HOPE London Sessions.

Young Epilepsy Awards Winner

Scott Liddle (Chairman), Atia Irshad (Trustee) and Galia Wilson John (parent) attended the star studded Young Epilepsy Awards ceremony at City Hall, London on 26th March.

We mentioned previously that we had been shorlisted for the Young Epilepsy Awards. The category that we have been nominated for is "Supporting the community: Groups" award.

We're proud to announce that HOPE London won the "Supporting the Commmunity: Groups" award. This is great recognition of the work that HOPE London have been doing in supporting families that are affected by epilepsy.

London Zoo trip

On Sunday 18th May the families that attend HOPE London’s activity session had a well- deserved day out together at London Zoo. This was arranged and funded through HOPE London with the support of the John Lewis Community matters scheme. Approximately 65 people arrived en masse for London Zoo’s Special Children’s day to take advantage of the extra activities and events that were organised for children with additional needs and their families. At lunch time all the families met up again for a picnic in the glorious sunshine! The consensus was that a great day out was had by all!

Mowkee the Clown visits HOPE:London

At our June session we were visited by Mowkee the Clown. Mowkee, AKA Mandy Mayhew uses the method known as Intensive Interaction to communicate with children who may usually have difficulties with expressing themselves.  Mowkee entertained all the children with magic tricks and balloon bending as well as interacting on a one to one basis with children with additional needs. We will look forward to Mowkee visiting us again in the future. To find out more about intensive interaction, please visit www.intensiveinteraction.co.uk/about/
